The majority of high-school students across America have been assigned to read the book 1984 by George Orwell, which has brought light of extreme censorship laws in books due to this. The government wouldn't allow writing, free thought or books that spoke badly about the government. They altered the history books to explain how wonderful their country is, the news is censored to speak bad about other countries to insure that their citizens think their homeland is the best. This book is based off of the communist movement that over took the Soviet Union when Joseph Stalin came into power. This has also been carried out today in countries like North Korea, China, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq. These countries are dominated by dictators that support the platform of communism. Communism is defined as a system of a social organization in which all economic and social activity are seen as equal and controlled by a government of a single political party. Dictators ensure their power by warding off any other political parties that try to protest their views. China is controlled by one single leader and the country expects the citizens "to surrender their own personal interests when they are in conflict with those of the Communist Party" ("Communism: Work Ethic and Motivation") giving them zero freedom of expression. In the governments eyes all citizens of these countries are considered minorities. Citizens are also forced to have occupations that are most often not by choice, but are given to them by the government and everything they work for is directed back to the government to distribute among the country’s citizens ensuring there is no unequal balance. In these communist countries, the people are doing what is "best" for their country.
